Acupuncture It is no secret that companion animals are living longer these days. Even as traditional Western veterinary medicine continues to advance and evolve, we are starting to see veterinary acupuncture being integrated into many Eastern veterinary offices. The practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM is over 3000 years old. In fact, in 1996 The American Veterinary Medicine Association was quoted as saying "Veterinary acupuncture is now considered an integral part of veterinary medicine". Acupuncture is the stimulation of acupoints with a very fine metal needle. These points on the body can range from 1mm to 25mm in size and have increased electrical conductivity than other areas of the body. At Natchez Trace Veterinary Services we offer acupuncture and herbal medicine as an alternative therapy to traditional Western veterinary medicine for our equine, canine and feline patients. Acupuncture is well recognized as an alternative pain relief modality and vitality stimulator, and can be appreciated particulary in the older patient.
